Kathryn O’Donnell is the CEO and a co-founder of Clovis Technologies, where she leads the development of an AI-enabled software system that takes an innovative approach to helping financial institutions perform money laundering detection and reporting, shutting down the laundering of proceeds from crimes like human trafficking and terrorist financing.
Kathryn has spent her career using math to find bad guys. She began at the U.S. Department of Defense, building experience in a number of deep technical areas for nearly 15 years, then joined Capital One's Innovation Lab in San Francisco. She led data-driven projects ranging from customer marketing to new data storage technologies and served as a technical leader on fraud and money laundering. She has presented work on detecting human trafficking and on productionalizing artificial intelligence at the Grace Hopper Conference.
Recently, she participated in judging startup pitch competitions, presented an invited talk on anomaly detection in money laundering at the SIGKDD Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining and developed and presented masterclasses at professional conferences on evaluating AI vendors, including startups, designing data strategies to enhance AI development, and using design thinking techniques to improve both the mathematical modeling and the tools for money laundering and terrorist financing detection.
